About Me
Jamie Williamson - Runner, Coach & Aspiring Entrepreneur
As a runner, I have been running competitively for over 10 years. I was a Great Britain and Scotland international athlete specialising over middle distances on the track but also ran road and cross country. One of my proudest moments was breaking four minutes for the mile. Unfortunately, injury cut my competitive career short, but I still have a passion for running and want to give something back to the sport I love!
As a coach, I was the Head Coach of the Franconian International School (FIS) cross country and track & field programmes for three years (2020-2023) working primarily with school-aged athletes. Through this I discovered a love for coaching and helping others achieve in life through sport. I might not be able to reach the running goals I set myself but being able to help others is incredibly rewarding!
In 2023 I expanded my coaching abilities by working one-on-one with private clients. I completed the UESCA (United Endurance Sports Coaching Academy) Running Coach Certification in August 2023 and become UKA (United Kingdom Athletics) certified in January 2024.
During my years in competitive athletics, I was fortunate to be coached by world-class coaches including George Gandy, Nic Bideau, Harald Schmaus, and Chris and Sonia McGeorge. Working with them has provided me with a wealth of coaching knowledge which I experienced first-hand through personal experiences as well as through those I was training with.
I have experienced the sport at all levels. During my prime I made it to international level but since being forced to take a step back I have been experiencing the vast and varied number of running opportunities and events, from trail races to Parkrun to charity events. There truly is something for everyone!
I have worked in the sports industry since graduating university. I started in Germany at the general sports retailer, Sport Hoffmann, before moving to Run North West, a run specialty store, in England. These experiences provided valuable insight into the retail and events side of the sport that I took into my next venture.
In August 2024 I took a leap and opened my own independent running specialty shop in Bristol called Kinisi Run Hub. It has been a lot of work but is incredibly fulfilling and working for myself is far more rewarding. There is a long way to go but I identified a gap in the UK run specialty marketing and introduced a unique concept. Getting the shop established means I am at run groups/clubs pretty much every evening of the week, parkrun on a Saturday and a race on a Sunday but this is just expanding my experience of the sport.
As an aspiring entrepreneur, I am constantly seeking ways I can contribute to the sport of running whether it be through content, help and advice, or something else. This website and starting a coaching business is my first venture but I am ambitious and have ideas for a sport where I see plenty of opportunities and potential!
